Education

Massachusetts is a global center of higher education. There are 117 colleges and universities in the Commonwealth, including fifteen universities, fifteen public community colleges, nine state colleges and numerous private schools and colleges. Some of these are specialized schools of art or design, and most of them have departments or offer courses related to design. In the field of architecture alone, Massachusetts has seven schools with accredited architectural degree programs.

DIGMA will eventually offer a comprehensive source of design education but, for now, the best way to explore design education in the Commonwealth is through websites of individual design associations and schools.

In addition to adult education, many schools offer programs for children and young people. A couple of notable local design gems aimed at introducing young people to the world of design are Youth Design Boston and Learning by Design.
