Design Associations

The U.S. design industry is largely organized by professional associations that serve the needs of a particular design discipline and their clients. As the boundaries among design disciplines blur, many of the associations have become more interdisciplinary. Professional design associations are the best place to start if you are looking for information on design events, educational or employment opportunities, professional standard and regulations, publications or competitions.

The Ad Club

The Ad Club is the trade organization for marketing, advertising and communications in New England. Founded in 1904, the club serves as a community connector. Events steeped in tradition such as the Hatch Awards, the Rosoff Awards and the Gala Auction are the backbone of the club for the recognition and networking opportunities they provide to the community around New England. AIA Central Massachusetts

The AIA Central Massachusetts (AIACM) is the regional association of 100 members that serves the communities of central Massachusetts. AIACM is committed to advancing public awareness and architectural services in central Massachusetts and increasing the awareness of the value architects bring to the places that we live, work and play. AIA Western Massachusetts Chapter

The Western Massachusetts Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has nearly 200 members, architects, corporate sponsors, associated professionals, and non-architect affiliate members living and working in the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires. Our Chapter seeks to enhance awareness and dialogue among design professionals, members of the building and real estate industry, community leaders and officials, educators, and the public at large. AIGA Boston

AIGA's mission is to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool, and vital cultural force. AIGA is a professional association committed to stimulating thinking about design through the exchange of ideas and information, the encouragement of critical analysis and research, and the advancement of education and ethical practice. American Society of Interior Designers

ASID is a community of people driven by a common love for design and committed to the belief that interior design, as a service to people, is a powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change people's lives. Through education, knowledge sharing, advocacy, community building and outreach, the Society strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people's lives. Boston Fashion Industry.com

An online magazine that provides information about Boston and New England fashion designers and their industry. An online directory and job listing provides business, educational and employment information as well as postings of business and social events associated with regional fashion industry. Boston Society of Architects

The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) administers programs and provides resources that enhance the practice of architecture and the public and professional understanding of design. Since its establishment in 1867, this nonprofit professional service organization has been a committed advocate of excellence in the built environment and increased service of the profession to society. The BSA is the eastern Massachusetts regional association of approximately 4,000 public, professional and affiliate members and is the largest branch of the American Institute of Architects. Boston Society of Landscape Architects

The Boston Society of Landscape Architects is a chapter of the national organization the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). BSLA is a volunteer organization of Landscape Architects in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Link to website

Boston Fashion Week

The annual Boston Fashion Week was founded in 1995 and is dedicated to creating opportunities that increase the viability and visibility of the local industry. The series of fashion related events throughout Greater Boston and beyond serves as a platform for both established industry professionals and aspiring newcomers to showcase their work as well as network with peers and the public. Boston Graphic Artists Guild

The Guild is a national union of illustrators, designers, web creators, production artists, surface designers and other creatives who have come together to pursue common goals, share their experience, raise industry standards, and improve the ability of visual creators to achieve satisfying and rewarding careers. Corporate Design Foundation

Corporate Design Foundation is a non-profit education and research organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and the effectiveness of organizations through design. It publishes @issue, a journal about the effective use of design in business. Link to website

DIGMA – Design Industry Group of MA

The Design Industry Group of MA is an industry forum for the Commonwealth's multidisciplinary design industries including advertising, architecture, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, landscape design, and specialized design services such as fashion, textile, exhibit and lighting design. DIGMA promotes the Massachusetts design economy by connecting design with educational institutions, public officials and other industries. DMI seeks to improve organizations worldwide through the effective integration and management of design and design principles for economic, social and environmental benefit. Fashion Group Intl Boston

The Fashion Group International is a global, non-profit, professional organization with 5000 members in the fashion industry including apparel, accessories, beauty and home. The FGI mission is to be the pre-eminent authority on the business of fashion and design and to help its members become more effective in their careers. Institute for Human Centered Design

IHCD is a 30 year old international non-profit organization, based in Boston, committed to advancing the role of design in expanding opportunity and enhancing experience for people of all ages and abilities. International Interior Design Association - New England

The mission of IIDA is to enhance the quality of life through excellence in interior design and to advance interior design through knowledge. IIDA is an international professional networking and educational association committed to enhancing the quality of life through excellence in interior design and advancing interior design through knowledge. International Design Development Summit

The International Development Design Summit is a month-long collaboration that brings together people from around the globe to build technologies for communities in the developing world.
